The Morgan Silver Dollar is one of America’s most well-known silver coin designs. Introduced in 1878, it was struck yearly until 1904 and then briefly in 1921. Now, 1897 Morgan Silver Dollar Coins are available online at BullionMax.
Coin Highlights:
The obverse of the 1897 Morgan Silver Dollar displays Liberty in a left-profile relief. Created in 1878, this design by George T. Morgan shows Liberty wearing a Phrygian cap with a coronet crown and laurel wreath, framed by 13 stars to symbolize the original Colonies.
On the reverse, the 1897 Morgan Dollar Coin showcases a heraldic eagle in front-facing relief. Also designed by Morgan, this eagle is shown with wings spread wide, clutching arrows in one talon and an olive branch in the other to represent readiness for both war and peace.
In 1897, Morgan Dollars were minted at three locations: Philadelphia, New Orleans, and San Francisco. The Philadelphia Mint produced the fewest coins that year, with 2.822 million struck, while higher mintages came from the other two facilities.
