Discover the captivating history of Pre-33 Saint-Gaudens Gold Double Eagles, minted during World War I and the early post-war years. Back in 1915, only the Philadelphia Mint and San Francisco Mint produced these coins, with a limited mintage of fewer than one million coins for the entire year. And now, you can add the 1915-S Pre-33 $20 Saint-Gaudens Gold Double Eagle Coins to your collection, available for purchase online from BullionMax in certified condition.
Coin Highlights:
Saint-Gaudens Double Eagles hold a significant place in history, being the final design in the $20 Double Eagle Series, as well as a remarkable departure from the traditional American coin design. President Theodore Roosevelt commissioned Saint-Gaudens in 1905 to create this stunning and realistic representation of Liberty, which was the first full-length portrait of an American female allegory in the country’s coinage history. The design features a ring of stars around Liberty, sunrays in the background, and the U.S. Capitol Building.
On the obverse of the 1915-S Saint-Gaudens Gold Double Eagles, you’ll find the magnificent portrayal of Liberty walking towards the viewer with a torch held high in her right hand and an olive branch in her left hand.
The reverse of the 1915-S Pre-33 $20 Gold Double Eagle displays the American bald eagle in left-profile relief, soaring gracefully through the sky as the sun rises from the bottom field of the coin.
These 1915-S Pre-33 $20 Saint-Gaudens Gold Double Eagles have earned the impressive Mint State 63 condition grade. Coins with this grade may display slightly impaired mint luster, minor contact marks, and a few scattered heavier marks. You might also notice small hairlines visible without magnification on the field.
