The Canadian Gold Maple Leaf series made its debut in 1979 as the second gold bullion coin after the South African Gold Krugerrand. Originally, the coins were available only in 1 oz gold with a .999 purity level. In November 1982, the Royal Canadian Mint enhanced the gold content to .9999 purity and introduced 1/4 oz and 1/10 oz coins to the lineup.

In 2014, the series expanded further with the introduction of these 1 Gram Canadian Gold Maple Leaf coins. This smallest weight in the series carries the same beautiful design and security features as the larger coins, except for the maple leaf privy mark on the reverse.

The obverse of the 1 Gram Canadian Gold Maple Leaf Coins displays Queen Elizabeth II’s portrait. This fourth-generation design was created by Susanna Blunt for the Royal Canadian Mint in 2003. It’s unique as it is the first royal effigy since the 1930s to feature the monarch without a crown.

On the reverse, the sugar maple leaf is showcased. Designed by Walter Ott in 1979 for the inaugural Gold Maple Leaf coins, this image elegantly represents Canada’s national emblem.
