The 5 Peso Uruguay Gold Coins were produced for Uruguay by the French Mint in Paris in 1930 to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the nation’s constitution, which was modeled after the US Constitution. An initial 14,415 coins were released in 1930, with another 80,000 reportedly entering the market in the 1990s through the Argentine central bank.

On the obverse of the coin, you’ll find a right-profile bust of Jose Gervasio Artigas. Artigas served as a military leader in the 19th century and is widely considered the father of Uruguayan independence.
