On the front side of the 2021 1 oz Silver Eagle Coins, both Type 1 and Type 2 versions showcase the famous Walking Liberty design. This image, created by Adolph A. Weinman in 1916, features Liberty striding toward the sun with the American flag around her shoulders. It originally appeared on the Walking Liberty Half Dollar.

The back side of these coins features different eagle designs. The Type 1 reverse includes John Mercanti’s original 1986 artwork, showing a bald eagle behind a shield, with arrows and an olive branch in its talons. The Type 2 reverse, introduced in July 2021, shows Emily Damstra’s updated image of a bald eagle in mid-flight holding an oak branch.

The switch from Type 1 to Type 2 took place partway through 2021. The US Mint paused production in June to swap out the dies and begin striking the new Type 2 coins in July, officially launching the updated design for the second half of the year.

These 2021 1 oz American Silver Eagle 2-Coin Sets come in secure plastic slabs with an American flag label. Each coin is graded Mint State 70 by PCGS, meaning it has no flaws and shows complete original luster. They also carry the First Strike label, which means they were received by PCGS for grading within 30 days of their release from the mint.
