Product Details

The First Spouse Gold Coin series from the United States Mint honors the women who have served as First Lady of the United States. Helen Taft was one of the most politically active First Ladies, bringing valuable international experience to the role after her time in the Philippines while William Taft served as governor-general. Her contributions helped shape the expectations of the position. Right now, 2013-W 1/2 oz US Mint First Spouse Helen Taft Gold Coins are available at BullionMax.

Coin Highlights:

  • Arrives in a protective slab!
  • 28th release in the First Spouse Series!
  • Limited mintage of 1,993 coins!
  • Label is hand-signed by David Hall!
  • Contains 1/2 Troy oz of .9999 pure gold.
  • Bears a face value of $10 (USD) backed by the federal government.
  • Issued a Grade of Mint State 70 by the Professional Coin Grading Service.
  • The obverse features a portrait of Helen Taft.
  • The reverse depicts a collection of Japanese cherry blossoms.

Each 2013-W 1/2 oz US Mint First Spouse Helen Taft Gold Coin is certified in Mint State 70 condition. This means the coin has full mint luster and no visible imperfections. Notably, this was the first issue in the series to have a mintage of fewer than 2,000 coins. Each coin also features a label hand-signed by David Hall, co-founder of the Professional Coin Grading Service.

Helen Taft was a trailblazer in many ways. In addition to her diplomatic background, she was also the first First Lady to ride in her husband’s inaugural parade. This tradition has continued, giving First Ladies a more active role in these historic events.

The obverse of the 2013-W US Mint First Spouse Helen Taft Gold Coin features a detailed portrait of Helen Taft. Often called “Nellie,” she served as First Lady from 1909 to 1913 during William Howard Taft’s presidency.

On the reverse of the 2013-W 1/2 oz First Spouse Helen Taft Gold Coin, a design inspired by her legacy is showcased. While living in Japan, she developed an appreciation for cherry blossom trees and later worked to have them planted along the Potomac River in Washington, D.C. These trees remain a significant part of the city’s landscape today.
